Teenagers below 14 and especially children shouldn’t watch this

The story and lore are very engaging but the show doesn’t miss shocking scenes like torture, prolonged executions, being burnt alive and surgeries without anesthesia. The actors are also delivering the emotions of going through all these convincingly enough. Furthermore, drug abuse isn’t absent and SPOILER ALERT, there are scenes where people are being tortured or manipulated by close relatives (parents). Sex scenes are sensored - most of them consist of just people kissing with subtle signs that intercourse is taking place. If you still wanna give it a go, have your children watch it with you but for particularly young individuals be prepared to give lengthy explanations/comfort.

Violent, Gory, Teen Dystopian Show

It all boils down to how mature your child is and how well you believe they can handle content such as raunchy sex scenes, gore, self-harm, and death. Very enjoyable show with mature themes present. There is also drug abuse and eventual suicide of a character, so be warned.

Disturbing but excellent

We just watched the entire series as a family with our young teen. It had been recommended by an older family member whose judgment we trust. It was wildly addictive, but brutal, brutal, brutal. At least some protagonists are at risk of death in pretty much every episode (if not due to a violent death, then due to apocalyptic and survival circ*mstances). The violence and themes are Hunger Games disturbing. Violent deaths and torture shown on-screen in almost every episode, and even beloved fan favorites aren't spared in many cases. Methods of death involve every foreseeable weapon, as well as genocide and weaponized "medical" procedures.Without spoiling, there are a few middle seasons with very dark, complex moral choices. Many are super uncomfortable and are hard to "unsee." There is also considerably more sex in later seasons (and many bare backs are shown) . Straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual characters are all well-represented though the intensity of their onscreen lovemaking varies. Many of the young adults make poor sexual choices and there does not appear to be any awareness of safe sex.Several characters drink, take funny mushrooms, and access to prescription drugs is limited and perilous. That being said, characters facing impossible decisions persevere, make tough choices, forgive, and learn about themselves. Several characters have very interesting evolutions over the course of 7 seasons. Core friendships are tested and reinforced, and have-nots forge unbreakable bonds.

A great show!

I watched this with my 16 year old daughter and my 13 year old daughter. Although their is consistent, realistic gore and violence (stabbing, guns, knives, etc.) it is all just a tv show. I really appreciated the strong female lead character, and I think this should be 12+ as it has some strong role models. There is absolutely NO drugs or smoking, though they do drink a few times (from a flask, in the first season only). There is mild swearing and occaisonal undressing (they keep their underwear on) for swimming and some kissing. Overall, it is a great show and is appropriate for kids 12+ (around middle school ages)

The greatest

This is the best show I have ever seen in my life. Sure; it has trouble finding it’s footing, but halfway through 1x05 it kicks into FULL GEAR. Acting is amazing and believable, cinematography is incredible and realistic and the plot is well tied. But it is violent, especially season 3. If you are sensitive to violence, don’t watch this show.As for sexual content, it’s only ever implied and not in your face at all. One episode (1x04) has brief breast nudity.Bad language is moderate and frequent, with words such as "bitch" "dick" and "sh*t" but no strong language like "f**k" or "c**t"I would say this show is fine for anyone aged 14 and up as long as you skip the episode "Fallen"

Great premise, starts clunky, ends amazing, tremendous music!

Like some series that turn out great, especially those with a large cast, this story took a few episodes, maybe even the first season to find its footing. The story is not polished with several inconsistencies and/or scientific gaps. I won't point any out specifically because of you happen to miss them you'll enjoy it even more. Just several points when you might think "that's silly, why didn't they just..." Enough said. Once the actors got warmed up and developed depth and relationships the leads became quite enigmatic and heroic. The plot was wonderful and certainly imaginable. The struggles were intense if sometimes overdone or oversimplified. The journey was in many ways reminiscent of The Walking Dead or Hunger Games. A highly dystopian future highlighting the present and possible future struggles of humanity and the generations of children who will face tremendous struggles and have to make both heroic and soul crushing choices. These are struggles and stories that I think young children might find fascinating and compelling. Younger viewers might also overlook more easily any inconsistencies that might be more sophisticated and hence enjoy it even more. There is certainly some graphic violence, but it seems the opposite of gratuitous. It is an integral part of the story and humanity's struggle for survival. The main characters evolve into heroic and tragic figures and at times as complex villains. There are many very different and interesting story lines and plot twists that take a while to intertwine and mature. So many that at times it can almost be a little bit hard to follow. But over the course of 100 episodes we delve deeply into the psyches and backstories of many of the characters to arrive at constantly greater understanding and can appreciate their individual and collective evolutions culminating in such a rousing and resonant finale that I'm almost tempted to watch the whole thing again. I'm still looking for a source for all of the wonderful music included in the series. Be sure to enjoy all the closing credit music as well. There were countless amazing remixes of amazing songs that were all beautifully placed within the storyline. I would pay virtually any price to have them in a collection and whoever was responsible for the score certainly deserves awards.

"The 100" Pros and Cons List

I started watching The 100 when I was 14; I'm 18 now. It's one of my favorite TV shows ever so it's easy for me to say everyone should be watching it! Unfortunately, that's not the case. Since I started watching as a young teen and ended the show off as a young adult, my perspective of the show has changed slightly over the years. I'm flamboyant on seeing both sides on what the show should or should not be rated. The 100 itself has already been labeled as TV-14. Here's a pro's and con's list on why I agree and what makes The 100 an acceptable show to watch:Pros:- Strong (mostly female) leaders and characters/actors early teens can look up to.- Strong plotlines that are easy to follow and allow critical thinking for the viewers.- The setting takes place in Virginia near Washington DC (renamed Ton DC) in the show. There are historical sightings that show up in random episodes like the Lincoln Memorial. Characters will give references to past historical events as well. Hence how Octavia Blake (one of the main characters) got her name. In season 5, she even uses a roman tactic to survive in a bunker for 6 years. Pretty educational if you ask me.- It deals with light politics and shows what leaders have to go through when making tough decisions. The writers are also good with designing heavy ethical decisions the characters have to face as well. It shows both sides; the government and the people.- The show doesn't push political correctness on it's viewers and lets them decide what they want to think. The writers do a good job with handling feminism and LGBT rights by expressing it naturally and equally. One of the most famous and well liked characters, Lexa, is a powerful woman leader of the Trikru clan. She's lesbian but the show proves that it doesn't change anything. Clarke Griffin, the main protagonist, is Bi but her sexuality isn't what defines her. While I bring up this point, characters throughout the show explore on what defines them and if the decisions they make have to do with it. - This is a slight stretch but, the show is loosely based off of the book series. If people are into the show enough, they'll want to read the books as well.- The seasons go back and forth from 13 episodes to 16 episodes per season. By the end of the last season (7th), there will be 100 episodes total. I bring this up because most teen shows have 24-26 (a half more) episodes per season and have around 6-15 seasons. That's 170-320 episodes. The 100 decreases the viewers couch time.- There's great lessons learned and talked through the main characters. Redemption, facing your demons, figuring out who you are as a person, loyalty, trust, you name it!- It's an interesting plotline that gets your imagination flowing which opens up doors for the brain to explore and helps form creativity. It's definitely a good tv show to converse over with friends.- The main characters are from ages 14-18 and are growing up with it's younger viewers.Cons:- The show repeats history so there's a lot of violence and death involved. Of course there are deaths in almost every tv show or film you watch, but the death count is pretty high.- The show includes sacrifices, homicides and even suicide if the viewer is sensitive to that sort of stuff.- There are sex scenes but nothing shows. As of season 7 episode 5, there's only been about five moral sex scenes.- There are very tough and heavy ethical situations in countless episodes. That includes, wanting to do the right thing regardless of the cost, characters sacrificing their own loved ones for the greater good, choosing oneself over their people, etc. Like, The Trolley problem, if I may add. Both pro and con:- Cussing is at a minimum. They only say up around two loose cuss words every few episodes. (I won't lie, the show gets heavier as the seasons progress, in case any parent is concerned. I grew up with severe depression and non of the intense scenes have affected me at all. In fact, I connected with the characters more and the show helped me clearly understand depression and that it's common. I've been watching the show with my mother and she has never had a problem with it.)In conclusion, I believe the pros overrun the cons and equal up to a good 14+ age ratio. That's my opinion of course. The 100 does involve a good amount of intense topics like war and sacrifice but, there's nothing in the show that kids wouldn't learn in their average social studies class (minus the sciency, sci-fi, and post apocalyptic stuff). But, it is overall a really fun, adventurous, accurate and creatively written show to watch! Addicting too! I definitely plan to tell my future kids all about it.
