Coverage of former President Donald Trump’s arraignment grew heated when Fox News’s Martha MacCallum and Juan Williams shouted over one another as concerns about the Bidens and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were raised.
“I think we all have to have our eyes open about what’s going on.”

Formerly of “The Five,” Williams is known for often shameless defenses of the Democratic elite and Tuesday was no different when the prolonged investigations of President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden were raised.
MacCallum introduced the subject of Biden’s alleged criminal bribery scheme as it related to potential taped conversations between the then-vice president, his son and a Ukrainian energy executive.
Williams was all too willing to downplay the investigation as a “conspiracy theory” meant to distract from the allegations made against Trump. Pivoting back to the federal felony charges brought against the former president related to his handling of classified documents, the political analyst endeavored to diminish any potential wrongdoing by Biden or Clinton for their own mishandling.
“Joe Biden’s team made those documents known to the government. The government didn’t go to Biden. And in case of Hillary Clinton, there was no effort to obstruct or lie about her activities. I mean, this is a clear difference with this case-” he said before MacCallum cut in.
“The servers were smashed and the emails were destroyed, Juan. The question — here’s the problem,” she interjected only to be cut off herself. “Emails were destroyed under the rules of law, Martha, under the rules of law.”
“That’s not true,” MacCallum fired back.
Williams further defended Clinton and argued, “The person who’s being investigated has the right to look at her emails or his emails, and decide which ones are relevant for the government to scrutinize. And now all of a sudden, Trump brings this up because again, it’s smoke and mirrors and say oh, it’s unfair.”
Of course, even folks at CNN had been willing to admit that there was something not right about the Justice Department’s handling of the probe into Hunter Biden specifically as the matter of his taxes and a gun charge had been ongoing for five years. “This is preposterous,” senior legal analyst Elie Honig had said suggesting it should have taken five weeks.

MacCallum sought a middle ground and acknowledged “disturbing” charges brought against Trump as she continued, “there’s also things in these other cases that are disturbing.”
“And you seem to be able to just say, ‘Oh, everybody did what they were supposed to do there.’ The problem is that half the country sees investigations as either politically sunk or politically elevated depending on the winds that happen to be backing them,” she asserted.
“You may have confidence that those cases were investigated clearly,” the anchor leveled at Williams. “A lot of Americans don’t have that confidence…my goodness, so how could it take five years to investigate Hunter Biden’s taxes and what’s on the laptop? Can you explain that to me? What is taking five years, Juan, if it isn’t back-burnered?”
When picking up his argument, the political analyst propped up Hunter Biden as a victim, referring to him as a “kid” and a “child” despite being a grown man at the time of his alleged crimes.
“We can make a case and feel confident in making this case that it wouldn’t be viewed as political and that a jury would convict this really lost child of a crime here. That it wouldn’t be seen as we were just going after him just because he’s the president’s son,” Williams said.
MacCallum didn’t let that stand as she pressed, “I mean, don’t make him sound like the victim.”
Resetting, she expressed, “Listen, if there’s nothing there, then the case should be closed. It’s still open. That’s the question. And I think many people believe it’s still open because it’s the president’s son of an active president. Now you’ve got an active political campaign going on, a former president, somehow we’re gonna be super expeditious and everything’s gonna wrap up, we’re going to do a speedy trial on this one. All I’m saying is that these things raise a lot of questions in the minds of Americans, Juan, and I think we all have to have our eyes open about what’s going on.”
